Most significantly, Texas demonstrated that it is capable of defeating a very excellent football team even when it is not at its best.

The Longhorns still have total control over their own fate as a result.

The Longhorns have had to endure this second victory in a culture test as well.

Following the injury to starter quarterback Quinn Ewers, the Longhorns narrowly avoided defeating the Cougars 31–24 two weeks prior in Houston, where they had blown a 21-point lead.

Much of Saturday’s game against Kansas State was the same, with Texas blowing a 27-7 lead and forcing OT due mostly to their own errors.

However, they ultimately succeeded in rising to the occasion when it counted most.

“I’d much rather lose pretty than win ugly. This is my first ever lovely loss, so I’ll take it. It’s great to be 8-1. Glad for our group, Sarkisian remarked.

“We keep finding a way to win, even if there are many teams that could have participated in this game today and not prevailed. That is a champion’s sign.

The Longhorns will now play two straight road games to start their final stretch of the season.

That starts with a game against TCU, a team they haven’t played well against in the past ten years.

However, they will be in Arlington for the Big 12 Championship Game—and if they win there, maybe even more—as long as they continue to win, pretty or not.
