Big Black, Shellac, and Nirvana frontman and engineer Steve Albini passes away at age 61.
As the frontman of Big Black and Shellac and a recording engineer for many other musicians, including PJ Harvey and Nirvana, Steve Albini was a prominent figure in the sound and morality of indie-rock.

He passed away at the age of 61. Taylor Hales, who works at Albini’s Chicago recording studio, Electronic Audio, confirmed the news to Variety on Wednesday; a heart attack was the cause of death.
As the frontman for Big Black, a Chicago-based band known for its aggressive guitar-based rock and unusual for the era of using a live drummer in instead of a drum machine, Albini initially gained recognition in the early 1980s.
He was well known for walking the talk as much as talking it when it came to criticizing other musicians and others who he believed were in it more for fame or money than for the music.
Despite the fact that he may have produced many albums, he detested the word “producer” and insisted on a credit reading “Recorded by Steve Albini.” Additionally, he declined to accept any “points” from the recordings he worked on, which are basically royalties, a financial bonus that most successful producers receive.
