Sidney Powell Plea Agreement May Put Trump in Danger
One day before her trial was scheduled to begin, former Donald Trump lawyer Sidney Powell entered a guilty plea in the Georgia election subversion case.
Powell is acknowledging her part in the January 2021 election system hack in rural Coffee County, Georgia, as part of her guilty plea.
A group of Trump supporters downloaded and copied data from the county’s election systems with the assistance of local GOP officials in an attempt to demonstrate in some way that the election was rigged against Trump.
This is the first time that an individual who was intimately involved in Donald Trump’s attempts to stay in power following his electoral defeat is cooperating with the prosecution.

Prosecutors in Fulton County suggest a six-year probationary term. Powell will also have to turn over papers, pay over $9,000 in fines and reparations, write an apology letter to the people of Georgia, and testify in future cases.
Powell’s plea paperwork do not list Trump as a co-defendant in the Fulton County case, and the brief plea hearing on Thursday did not include any mention of Trump.
Powell had been spreading conspiracy theories following the 2020 election, claiming that millions of ballots had been manipulated in an international plot against Trump that included Venezuela and other foreign nations.

She is now the second defendant to enter a guilty plea in the extensive racketeering case. Last month, bail bondsman Scott Hall entered a guilty plea and consented to testify in upcoming cases.
Trump and the other 17 accused have entered not guilty pleas.
According to recent court documents, Powell acknowledged acting following the 2020 election “with the intention of taking and appropriating information, data, and software, the property of Dominion Voting Systems Corporation” and “for the purpose of willfully tampering with electronic ballot markers and tabulating machines.”

According to the documents, she also acknowledges that she hired a data forensics company and dispatched its staff to Coffee County in order to get unauthorised access to government computers for the purpose of “examining personal voter data, with knowledge that such examination was without authority.”
Prosecutors have fiercely denied, on her behalf, that she was the mastermind of the Coffee County hack. In pretrial proceedings, they have asserted that the evidence “will show that she was not the driving force behind” the incident and that the prosecutors are “incorrect.”

Powell, who must testify against Hampton in the event that she is put on trial, acknowledges that she and Powell engaged in a criminal plot. For seven offences, Hampton has entered a not guilty plea.
Trial was set to start on Friday.
Powell had filed numerous requests to have the case dismissed or to at least weaken some of the most serious charges, such as the alleged RICO violation, but Fulton County Judge McAfee had always denied them.
Powell’s claims that the indictment infringed upon her First Amendment rights were denied by him in his most recent decision, which was made on Wednesday night.
The trial, which was scheduled to start on Friday and include Powell and co-defendant Kenneth Chesebro’s jury selection, is significantly altered by the last-minute plea.
They both asserted their right to a prompt trial, leading to the first courtroom confrontation in the extensive case; nevertheless, it now seems that Chesebro will proceed independently.
Regarding his involvement in the fake-electors scheme, Chesebro has entered a not guilty plea to seven counts.
Legal danger in another place
In addition to the Georgia lawsuit, Powell continues to have legal issues.
In the federal election subversion case that special counsel Jack Smith brought against Trump, she is a co-conspirator who is not charged. As CNN previously reported, that inquiry has continued in recent months and has been closely examining Powell. In that instance, she has not been charged.
Two voting technology businesses have also filed hefty defamation lawsuits against Powell for falsely accusing them of rigging the 2020 election against Trump.
