Ahead of Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET trade deadline, The Athletic’s panel of analysts and insiders analyzes the most recent rumors and talk.
The NFL trade deadline for 2023 is set for Tuesday, October 31, at 4 p.m. ET. Join The Athletic’s staff of analysts and insiders as we dissect the confirmed deals, reported offers, and their implications going forward.
Ravens await trade deadline following a narrow victory over the Cardinals.
Eric DeCosta, general manager of the Baltimore Ravens, observes games from the sidelines, or at least the first halves of them.
He has always claimed that Sundays are the worst day at work since, once the game begins, he has no say over the course of the following three or more hours.
Observing from the field, as opposed to a suite above or the press box, brings the fiery DeCosta closer to the action and provides a more secure environment for him to let out his pent-up emotions.
Sunday was DeCosta’s last opportunity to get a close-up look at the group he and his front staff put together prior to today’s 4 p.m. ET trade deadline.
DeCosta saw the Ravens struggle to win 31–24 against the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium, but they did manage to build a 17–point lead in the fourth quarter thanks to three touchdowns from Gus Edwards on the ground and interceptions by Brandon Stephens and Geno Stone.
It’s okay if the Ravens’ performance on Sunday can only be described as them taking care of business. It’s not often that they put on dominant, comprehensive performances like the one they did against the Detroit Lions.
Bears wide receiver Jaylon Johnson wants to be traded:
I can vouch for the fact that Bears wide receiver Jaylon Johnson did, in fact, request a trade over night, and that his agency is now free to discuss the request with other clubs.
This will be a fascinating day. That’s for certain. This season, he has been among the Bears’ finest players.
Before the NFL trade deadline, there are five transactions I’d like to see.
Even though NFL general managers have had the entire season to negotiate moves, nothing like bringing up a deadline to intensify discussions and create pressure.
Teams will be forced to play with their current rosters for the remainder of the 2023 season after 4 p.m. ET. We will, no doubt, see further proof of the proverb that “deadlines inspire action” as the trade window shutting approaches.
Like most trade deadlines in sports, there are perhaps a dozen or more options that an NFL general manager would want to look into.
Although general managers are the ones who know their teams the best, I would err on the side of aggressiveness for the Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots, and New Orleans Saints, whose seasons might go either way.
D’Onta Foreman and Zack Moss discuss potential RB trade possibilities for the Browns.
Last week, Jordan Wilkins was in his Memphis living room when his phone rang. The Browns of Cleveland desired his return.
After almost 12 hours and two flights, he returned to Cleveland and was only one signature away from joining the practice squad. Wilkins, the third running back for the Browns, came dangerously close to being called up to the active roster this Sunday in Seattle.
The quarterback situation in Cleveland is in the news. The Browns must also be concerned about the health of their running backs because Jerome Ford is playing through a high ankle sprain. They may need to make changes before today’s NFL trade deadline.
Bears allow CB Jaylon Johnson to request a trade: Source
This morning, the NFL network announced that CB Jaylon Johnson of the Bears has been granted permission to pursue a trade.
In six games this season (all starts), Johnson, a second-round pick in 2020, has racked up two interceptions for Chicago.
