The mystery surrounding the Congress candidates in the Amethi and Raebareli constituencies of Uttar Pradesh, which was formerly thought to be a bastion of the Nehru-Gandhi family, persisted with just one day remaining for the filing of nominations for Phase 5 of the Lok Sabha elections.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is expected to run from Amethi as well. Gandhi is already running on the Congress ticket from Wayanad in Kerala, which performed strongly in the second phase of voting on April 26.

In the meantime, the Election Commission examined on Tuesday the state of readiness for the May 7th, third round of the Lok Sabha elections.Days after the polls closed, it also declared the final voter turnout numbers for the first and second phases, which were 66.1% and 66.7%, respectively.

This occurred on a day when opposing parties questioned the reason behind the delay in releasing the data.

 

265 observers were stationed to watch the phase, and Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu met with Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar.
