“We acknowledge that this tornado appears to have crossed into Pavilion Township from the area of Texas Township that is located across the city of Portage.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office said late Tuesday that “there is significant damage all along Centre Avenue, which is being handled by the city of Portage, as well as into Pavilion Township, and the Pavilion Estates Mobile Home Park there.”
“Houses along the road. We discovered dwellings among our neighbors. Big trees were found in houses. Numerous cars that had been damaged by big trees or houses were discovered. The sheriff’s office stated, “We’re finding again that there is no one in these vehicles.”
As we went door-to-door through the neighborhood, one of the things I discovered while speaking with locals is that there were folks there who were paying attention to the weather service information. Knowing that our community pays attention to the weather services was a tremendous success.”
The Portage Department of Public Safety requested that people refrain from visiting the area as the town deals with the storm damage.
