Artificial intelligence hysteria
Artificial intelligence hysteria. Barely two weeks have passed since OpenAI launched the most advanced version of ChatGPT. (GPT-4) with all its more exciting features compared to the previous version, until it was confronted with a message that raised noise and fear under the title “Temporary cessation of giant artificial intelligence experiments.”
In an open letter, more than one thousand three hundred prominent figures in the world of technology and business called for a freeze on the development of the most powerful “artificial intelligence” robotic systems for a period of at least six months, given the danger that these systems with human competitive intelligence pose to societies and humanity.
Tesla
The importance of the message is that its most prominent signatories include Elon Musk, the owner of “Twitter” (or “XCorp” as it was renamed last month), the CEO of “Tesla”, Steve Wozniak, one of the founders of “Apple”, Stuart Russell, a professor of computer science at the University of California, Berkeley, Max Tegmark, professor of physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Evan Sharp, one of the founders of Pinterest, and many others.
They hoped to take advantage of the proposed deadline to develop a set of common rules and protocols for safe artificial intelligence tools in a way that dispels fears and regulates the sector.
Regulations
They called on governments to be a strong barrier in the event of non-response, as “we must have some regulations and supervisory controls,” according to Musk, who was right in saying, “We have regulatory bodies that supervise the public safety of cars, planes, and medicines,” so why should this not affect artificial intelligence?
AI drones
When Musk is worried about artificial intelligence (AI), he is not talking about the drones that are used to provide courier services, photography, etc., nor about the social media applications that formed the first link between “AI” and humanity, at a time when we are losing…
Our real social communication is little by little, and it does not talk about artificial intelligence that is used in practical programs to develop their mechanisms. What Musk is warning about goes far beyond that, and he is right in principle, provided his intentions are pure and free of implicit commercial goals.
