Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has expressed gratitude to its fans for staying with the club, one day after the team won a massive 10-wicket victory against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) when footage of LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka angrily abusing captain KL Rahul went viral.

LSG posted on the social media site “X” saying, “That game hurts us all. 💔 But despite this setback, we are incredibly appreciative of every blue flag at Uppal as well as every social media post or remark that shows support for us.”

“Over the past two years, our team has demonstrated resiliency, and we will do it once more. We appreciate your support, LSG Brigade (sic),” it continued.

LSG set a goal of 166 runs in 20 overs for SRH while batting first. Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, the openers for Hyderabad, reached the goal in 9.4 overs. Following the loss, the owner of LSG was seen arguing angrily with captain KL Rahul on the field.

Sanjiv Goenka

After the video of Sanjiv Goenka and KL Rahul’s tense exchange went viral, internet users became enraged with the IPL team owner and demanded an apology from Goenka.

Here are some of the reactions:

“LSG’s owner Sanjeev Goenka is agitated with KL Rahul for the loss against SRH,” one person commented. He is entitled to be angry, but he cannot openly degrade a veteran Indian player in this way. It is NOT marwadi dhanda, cricket!”

“Pehle apne owner ko dekho fir gyan deyo,” a second fan commented. KL Rahul se bhar samaj mei cameras ke saamne gussa kar raha. Losses come and go, and Mr. Goenka’s behavior is incredibly pitiful.”

KL RahulSome commented, “It’s disappointing to witness the team owner berating their own captain… Although I don’t particularly like KL, Goenka shouldn’t have acted in this way; this is not his fault. A little embarrassing for the LSG captain.

Meanwhile, there have been rumors that LSG would bench its skipper, KL Rahul, for the next two IPL tournaments as well as for the last two games. At the IPL 2022 auction, they paid a record ₹17 crore for Rahul.

There is a five-day break before the following matchup with Washington. Although no decision has been made as of yet, it is believed that the management won’t object if Rahul decides to focus solely on his batting for the final two games, an IPL source informed PTI.

For the record, vice captain Nicholas Pooran is probably going to take over for the final two games if KL Rahul decides to stand down.

LSG in IPL 2024:

Based on statistical data, LSG is presently ranked sixth with 12 points from 12 games, including six victories. Their run-rate net is -0.769.
