Cowboys vs Chargers: The Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Chargers played each other at SoFi Stadium to conclude Week 6 of the 2023 NFL season.

The Cowboys won 20-17 on the road after a thrilling back-and-forth game thanks to a last-second interception of Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert.

Here are the key moments from the suspenseful Monday night movie!

Cowboys had a significant victory

The Dallas Cowboys had a significant victory in Los Angeles despite losing in San Francisco.

On Monday night, the Dallas Cowboys held on to overcome the Los Angeles Chargers 20-17.

With 2:19 left in the fourth quarter, Dallas made a 39-yard field goal, and to secure the victory, the Chargers’ defense subsequently picked off Justin Herbert on their last possession.

In the victory, Cowboys top defensive Micah Parsons recorded two tackles, one sack, and three quarterback hits.

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott had a strong performance. Prescott had a rushing touchdown and completed 21 of 30 passes for a touchdown. CeeDee Lamb, a wide receiver, recorded seven catches for 117 yards.

INTERCEPTION!

With less than two minutes remaining, teammate Stephon Gilmore was able to intercept Herbert following a sack by Micah Parsons, securing the victory for Dallas.

In the fourth, tied

Los Angeles took advantage of its successful challenge, and TE Gerald Everett’s 1-yard TD to conclude the drive tied the score at 17 all.

Stupid Punt

Following what appeared to be an illegal touch by Dallas, the Chargers successfully challenged the play and were awarded possession of the ball in the end zone.

TOUCHDOWN!

In the fourth quarter, the Cowboys increased their lead to seven points thanks to a superbly placed pass from Prescott that reached Brandin Cooks in the end zone.

That one was quite close.

To get the Cowboys into the red zone early in the fourth quarter, Prescott spun his way out of danger and connected with RB Tony Pollard at the Dallas 24-yard line for a 60-yard gain on third-and-11.

Massive Stop

The Dallas defense came up big, stopping the Chargers’ offense on fourth down in the red zone when it appeared that their attack was on a run.

Cowboys vs. Chargers winners and losers

WINNERS

Dak Prescott: Following a disastrous performance in last week’s humiliating loss to the San Francisco 49ers (14-for-24 passing for 153 yards, three interceptions), Prescott had a bounce-back performance against the Chargers, tossing for 272 yards and a touchdown. Additionally, Prescott added a game-high 40 yards in the rush, including an 18-yard scramble for a touchdown.

When Prescott connected with Brandin Cooks for a 2-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, he became the 30th quarterback in NFL history to do so against 31 or more opponents.

Cowboys and a week off:

Dallas, which has improved to 10-1 since the beginning of 2021 in games after a loss, needed this victory to advance. Rather than being on a two-game losing run, the Cowboys start off their bye week on a bright note.

Following their bye week, the Cowboys host the Los Angeles Rams then travel to face the Philadelphia Eagles. Before hosting the Washington Commanders for their yearly Thanksgiving Day game, the Cowboys have winnable games remaining against the New York Giants in Week 10 and the currently winless Carolina Panthers.

Fervent Chargers supporter:

Even though the neighborhood professional football club fell on “Monday Night Football,” a fierce Chargers supporter wearing the No. 10 jersey of Justin Herbert quickly became viral online.

When the Chargers faced a crucial fourth-and-1 from the Cowboys’ 1-yard line late in the game, a meme was formed. As the Chargers tied the game (“Just pure ecstasy for his Chargers fan, as the Chargers have tied it at 17,” broadcaster Joe Buck noted), she really went through the gamut of emotions until losing it shortly after.

LOSERS

Yes, we are aware that Gerald Everett’s game-tying touchdown on a fourth-and-1 play in the fourth quarter was the result of Brandon Staley’s fourth-down decision.

But in the NFL, there isn’t much of a difference between winning and losing. The choice made in a fourth-and-1 situation in the middle of the third quarter significantly affected how the game turned out.

Staley chose to go for it on fourth-and-1 instead of kicking a sure field goal from the Cowboys’ 7-yard line to tie the game at 10-10. The Chargers ultimately lost by the three points they left on the field as a result of it failing.

Legendary coach Vince Lombardi once said, “If you can’t gain a yard, you don’t deserve to be a champion.” Football math whizzes advise, “Go for it!” yet the Chargers’ head coach frequently makes questionable fourth-down decisions.

Kellen Moore:

Too much was probably made of an offensive coordinator playing his old team. Moore’s attack only scored 17 points, though. As the Cowboys’ pass rush consistently applied pressure to the NFL’s second-highest paid quarterback, Justin Herbert didn’t appear to be at ease. Herbert was sacked on the second down of the Chargers’ final drive, and on the third down he threw an interception that ended the game.

Austin Ekeler:

After missing the previous three games due to an ankle injury, Ekeler was back in the Chargers’ backfield, but the running back struggled to generate momentum against the Cowboys’ defense. Ekeler averaged 1.9 yards per run while gaining 27 yards on the ground. James Reineking
